baked

so i finally started to do something i haven't ever done before. baking cakes.

my first try was a golden butter cake with chocolate frosting. it's a little weird looking, but it's supposed to be a cho-cha. i'm quite proud of it. it's better lookin' from a bird's eye view but i doesn't look right on my camera phone.... so that's this:

then i made a strawberry cake.... in the shape of boobies. (no photo)

and i got the baking fever.

i also make a great red velvet cake. actually, we made heart-shaped ones. it's so strange cause no one at the house likes red velvet cake! just me! which is fine.

then i made a traditional yellow cake. see, better with the frosting right?

and then for the finale, most recently, a heart-shaped carrot cake.

yummies. i also made some heart-shaped cupcakes sans frosting for a little bit more of a healthy treat... (it is after all, carrot cake... and carrots have beta-carrotine! get it?) how ghetto is that cupcake with the fork punctures! hey! i was checking to see if it was done!

That golden butter cake looks like a ship. What shape is that?

I've been doing a few recipes out of old style recipe books. I just made lemon bars circa 1900 that are really good, although they look nothing like the bright yellow clear ones you see in shops. We ate them all, so I don't have a picture... next time. =) I also squirreled a book of my mother's that has recipes from England during WWII that can be made from the rations each family was given. I only made some tea cakes so far that taste like wheat cookies, but it's fun to have an idea of what people were eating in wartime England.

Are you making your cakes from scratch, flour and all?

ohhh. lemon bars. i was thinking about that! but it would be the clear neon yellown ones!

if it requires more than boiling water, it's cooking to me! :) tee hee hee!

they sell kim-chi ramen at costco and then i boil some imitation crab meat and then i mix the two! it's new dish and would sell for $8.00 at a ramen house!

you're more of a domestic goddess than i am aesdanae!
