my first d.i.y. project of the year

i actually probably haven't done many inventive do it yourself projects ever....

but last night i was looking around for a how to build your own rotary clothesline... and i found a site that has a bunch of d.i.y. items... and this one was one of my favorites and i did it today!

it cost me $1.00. the one on the internet suggests going to ikea and getting one for $10.00.

i was at the 99 cent store and saw allen wrench set. and mind you, it's made of plastic (but there is a metal under the orange plastic)... so i assume the ikea version would be more durable.

so what i did was i bought the allen wrench set, unscrewed the attachments, replaced all the allen wrenches with my keys. one thing to note is that you might need to file some of your keyholes to make it fit the screw. the allen wrenches had a metal washer in between some of the different sizes so i just used those to separate the keys a little bit.

they also suggested you file down all the key parts that stick out so it's more stream-line... but that would take too much time and i'm not sure if i'd be able to get them out without breaking a fingernail.

i reattached the nut and the screw bolt... and VOILA!

unfortunately my car key doesn't fit in there, so i attached a mini key ring into the allen wrench and started a daisy chain of key rings.

the reason why i love this project so much was that i have always been annoyed with the fact that when i throw my keys into my bag, that it would scratch my mobile phone, etc.... now instead of 10 keys scratching my stuff, there's only one key... the likelihood of scratching has gone down... right? i think so.

i'm so happy!
